Who we are
Heimweard ("the app") is an Android app published on Google Play by Liberty Apps, USA, under the Ordstirr name. It checks which permissions and special access the apps on your phone have, and helps you review files you pick. If you have a question about this policy, email [email protected].
The short version
The app does not collect, send, sell or share any of your information. It has no internet permission, so it cannot connect to the internet, to our computers or to any cloud service. Everything it finds stays on your phone. We, the developer, never receive or see anything about your phone, your apps or your files.
What the app reads, only on your phone
Installed apps ("query all packages"). The app's main job is to check the apps on your phone. Android's QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES permission lets it read the list of installed apps, the permissions each one asks for and has been given, and whether special access (such as accessibility, device admin, notification access or display over other apps) is switched on. The app uses this only to build the permission report you see on screen and to open Android's own settings page for an app when you tap it. Before the first scan the app explains this and asks you to agree. The list is never sent anywhere.
Usage access (optional). Usage access is off unless you switch it on yourself in Android Settings. If you do, the app reads only the date each app was last used, to point out apps you have not opened in a long time. You can switch it off again at any time in Android Settings.
Files you pick (Storage tab). The app has no permission to read your photos, videos, music or other files. When you use the Storage tab, Android's photo picker (or, for audio, Android's file picker) opens, and the app can see only the files you choose there. For those files it reads the names and sizes, and reads their contents only to calculate a fingerprint (SHA-256) on the phone to find exact copies. Nothing is uploaded or copied, and the list is forgotten when the app closes. The app deletes or moves to trash only files you select, after you confirm, and Android itself also asks you to confirm.
What the app keeps on your phone
The app saves only the following, in its private storage that other apps cannot open: your settings, the result of your last app scan (so it stays viewable after the trial), the free-trial start date, and whether the full version has been unlocked. A PDF report is made only when you tap Export, and it is saved or shared only where you choose.
The app turns off Android's automatic cloud backup and phone-to-phone copy for its data, so none of it is uploaded by the app.
What we collect
Nothing. There is no account and no sign-in. The app contains no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking. Apart from Google's Play Billing Library, which lets the app talk to the Google Play Store app on your phone about the purchase, it contains no third-party code that handles your information. It does not read your contacts, location or messages, and it does not use the Android advertising ID.
In-app purchase
The app is free to try. After the free trial, a one-time in-app purchase (US$1.99, or the local price Google Play shows you) unlocks new scans and the Storage tab. There is no subscription. The purchase is made and paid for through Google Play, under your Google account and Google's own terms and privacy policy. Google processes the payment. We do not receive your payment card details, your name, your email address or any other personal information from Google.
To check whether you have bought the unlock (including Restore purchase), the app asks the Google Play Store app on your phone, and saves only the unlock status on your phone.
Phone permissions
- Query all packages (QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES): to list your installed apps and check their permissions, the app's core purpose. Used only on the phone.
- Usage access (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS, optional; you switch it on yourself in Settings): last-used dates only.
- Google Play billing (com.android.vending.BILLING): for the one-time unlock.
- An internal permission that only this app can use, added by Android's support library so the app's own parts can talk to each other safely. It gives no access to your information.
The app has no internet permission and no permission to read your photos, videos, music or storage.
Links
The About screen has links to our website, ordstirr.com, and to our other apps. A link only opens if you tap it, in your phone's own browser or the Google Play Store app, outside this app. Links carry no tracking codes. Websites you visit are covered by their own privacy policies.
How long information is kept, and how to delete it
Everything the app stores stays on your phone until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app, which erases it. Your purchase stays on your Google Play account, so you can restore it after reinstalling. Because we never receive your information, we have nothing to look up, hand over or delete for you.
Children
The app is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children. It does not collect information from anyone, including children.
Google Play
The app is downloaded, and the unlock is bought, through Google Play. Google handles your Play Store account, downloads and payments under Google's own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).
No guarantee
The app's findings are guidance to help you review your apps and files, not a security guarantee.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version at this same web address and update the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting any information, this policy and the app's Google Play listing will be updated before that version is released.
